Brian Bernatchez, CFP®, President

Brian is a graduate of Thomas College and has been in the financial services industry since 1989.  He founded Golden Pond in 1996 in his hometown of Belgrade.  Brian specializes in comprehensive retirement and estate planning for retirees and is the supervising principal of the firm.  Brian has been named a member of the 2014 LPL Financials Chairman’s Council, an award based on revenue that places him in the top 2% of LPL Financial’s Advisors.  Brian is privileged to have been named one of America’s top Financial Advisors by the Winner’s Circle and Research Magazine 2006 (an award based on assets managed, revenue produced and quality of practice). Brian was awarded the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ Practitioner (CFP®) designation in 1996.  He was named the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year for 2006 (an award based on community service contributions to the Mid Maine geographic area) and currently serves on the board of trustees of Thomas College and is the Founder and President of the Maine Majestix Field Hockey Club.  Brian and Amy live on McGrath Pond in Belgrade with their children Katie, Kristy and Jack. Brian enjoys boating, waterskiing, golf, snowmobiling and coaching field hockey.

Bert Languet, CFP®, Vice President

  Bert Languet has worked in the field of financial services since 1989, having worked at State Street Bank (Boston), Waddell and Reed (Boston Area), and The Centennial Group (Lansing, Michigan) prior to moving home to Maine in 1996 when Golden Pond opened its doors. He holds a B.A. from Colby College, an MBA from Thomas College, and is a Certified Financial Planner Practitioner (CFP®). Bert has been published in the Journal of Financial Planning, Maine Seniors, and wrote a monthly column on Socially Responsible Investing for the former Kennebec Business Monthly. He currently serves on the Belgrade Lakes Association Board and is a past president of the Central Maine Youth Hockey Association and the Augusta Kiwanis Club. He has also served on the boards of the Maine Children’s Home, Waterville Opera House, Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting. Bert’s favorite volunteer projects have been the playgrounds at the Maine General Medical Center and the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter. He built and maintained an outdoor ice rink at the Alfond Youth Center for several years and was recognized as the “Outstanding Business Professional” by the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce in 2012 (Awarded to an area business principal or officer who has displayed solid leadership in setting the positive direction of their company, maintaining integrity, professionalism and vision of the region) and the REM “Volunteer of the Year” for the Alfond Youth Center in 2013. Bert has been and continues to be a key figure in the Maine Pond Hockey Classic which benefits the Alfond Youth Center where he is known as the “Iceman” for building and maintaining the rinks on Messalonskee Lake at the Snow Pond Center for the Arts. Bert and his wife, Sara, have been married since 1993 and have three children: Jose’, Gabriela, and Joshua. In addition to his volunteer activities, he enjoys fly fishing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and spending time at his camp in Lily Bay on Moosehead Lake and his pontoon boat on Great Pond.
